Mark bittman on what’s wrong with what we eat
May 26, 2009
I’ve been trying to think of ways to eat less meat for quite a while. My reasons include the fact that I think it’s healthier for me, it reduces my support of cruel factory farming, and uses less energy and less of the world’s food supply. It just feels virtuous, I guess. I hope that doesn’t seem self-righteous because I don’t mean it as a judgement on people who love meat. I like it, too, I just want to eat less of it.
I thought this talk by cook book author and food writer Mark Bittman sums up the reasons to eat less meat really well. I like him better than Michael Pollan and Alice Waters, who are a bit too elitist in my opinion. I also like Mark Bittman because he’s talked recently about how important it is to eat more plant foods rather than more organic foods. I think the virtue of organics is overblown.
